Our library doors are always open to students and their families. Parents may take out resources for their children as well as the children. Parents-just ask for a Patron Card.
Each week, Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will receive one library class with the Teacher -Librarian, Mrs. L. Ruetz. During this class great things will happen!!
- Students may renew or exchange their library books. They take these books home or read them at school.
- Students will be introduced to the many different authors and illustrators of children's books.
- Students will learn about the numerous kinds of books found in the nonfiction section of the library. For example- Poetry, Dinosaur, Cooking, Experiments
- Students will learn about how to care for their library books.
- Students will learn how to search for specific resources in the library using the District Library System.
- Students will learn how to search for information online and in the library resources. For example- Search using the encyclopedias in print and online.
- Students will become involved in doing a research project on their own or in a class group.
- Students will spend time reading their books on their own.
- Students will meet various Authors and Illustrators from around Canada.
- Students will be able to take part in a Fall and a Spring Book Fair.
Borrowing Procedures:
- Students in Kindergarten will be allowed to borrow one book each week.
- Students in Grade One and Two will be allowed to borrow three books for a week at a time.
- Students in Grade Three to Six will be allowed to borrow three books for a period of two weeks.
When a student signs out a book it becomes their responsibility. Library resources must be returned successfully for the student to keep borrowing privileges. If a resource becomes damaged or lost, the student is responsible for the replacement of the resource. If a book is lost and paid for but later is found and returned in good condition, the replacement cost will be refunded to the student. The student's report card will also be held until all missing or overdue library items are returned or paid for.
** Remember ** - There are over 200 students at Southview who enjoy these library resources so take very good care of them.
